Every school needs something different, from light-touch advice to full hands-on coordination and delivery. However, our work is always a partnership with you. By working together, we aim to leave you with the plans, ideas, contacts, resources and confidence you need so we can find another school to help, and you can embed the work we have shared into your ongoing curriculum.

“The knowledge of the trainer was excellent and her enthusiasm really inspired the children to take part and learn.” Katy Smith, Reception teacher, Amblecote Primary School

What do we offer?

Start up support

If you don’t know where to start or have a particular challenge you want to overcome when teaching about food, farming and the environment, your local REC may be able to work with you to increase your confidence. For example, a REC may support your first farm visit or introduce food and farming topics through an assembly..

Farm/School links

We know that the best learning happens when farming is embedded in the curriculum, and we encourage farms and schools to form long term partnerships. Your REC can help to match you with a local farm and work with you to establish a programme of engagement that works for both parties.

On-farm suite of offers

Innovative projects

One of the great things about farming is that it is such a broad and diverse topic, it can be incorporated into schools in many different ways, often in partnership with other concepts. RECs love working on exciting new projects that encourage us to keep pushing the boundaries and coming up with innovative approaches. If you’ve got some experience of teaching farming already and are ready to take the next step, get in touch.

Case study

FACE has worked with the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts over several years to deliver our Chef on the Farm project during which pupils visit a farm where they also have the opportunity to cook with a professional chef.

We can signpost you to CPD that will provide encouragement, build confidence and offer fun and inspiring ideas. Our training will help you to enhance your subject teaching by using farming as a context for learning. We can tailor specific training to meet the needs of your staff.

Bespoke programmes

We can share ideas with you and develop a programme which is bespoke to your school or to a specific year group or class.

Strategic input

Would you like us to work with your senior management team or school governors to explain the benefits of outdoor learning and, in particular, the advantages of learning where our food comes from and of making links with local farms? Through them we can offer CPD for staff or we can provide assemblies or structured sessions with classes and work towards embedding food, farming and countryside topics into the school culture and curriculum.

Our services, normally chargeable by the day or per project, can be adapted for any school that requires full hands-on delivery and co-ordination.
